(Due to isolation because of current measures in place, you may receive a black-and-white copy of this pattern rather than color.)You're bidding on a kit for making your own Sue needle case.
I tote Sue along with me anytime I know I'm going to be riding in the car on a lengthy road trip or waiting in a doctor's office for one of my children's appointments. Busy hands, happy heart -- and I always have some on-the-go needle project for my busy hands, whether it be making yo yo's or one-of-a-kind pincushions. Or even more Sunbonnet Sue needle cases!
A thimble fits inside her bonnet. Sweet posies with French knot centers adorn her skirt and bonnet.
It seems I have always loved Sue. She creates a happiness in me that compares to dangling my feet in a brook on a hot summer's day, or listening to some great old Big Band music while shopping in a favorite store, or stitching with a friend.
Maybe it all goes back to my childhood when I'd lie down for a nap in my room on a spring afternoon. My mom had sewn some sweet muslin curtains for my room; Sues danced in the gentle breeze coming in through my open window. Pretty maids all in a row at the bottom of my curtains. When my own (middle) daughter was a tiny bundle, I made my most favorite piece of "quilt art"-- with the aid of a vintage Sunbonnet Sue pattern, I stitched her a hand-appliqued baby quilt with Sunny Sues and Overall Sams!
Your kit will include your choice of a number of colors for Sue's dress (violet, fuchsia, medium blue, pink, orange), and as available, there are wool felt choices of aqua, muted red and deep blue. You'll also receive small scraps of various colors from which to cut the small posies, plus embroidery threads, lace trim, black ribbon 'tie' for bonnet, and of course the pattern with instructions. Get creative & use tiny buttons instead of itty bitty felt circles for flowers. Or experiment with different stitches at the edge of her skirt and bonnet. Use a bit of old tatted lace or crochet for her ruffles instead of the purchased lace that's provided with your kit. You'll probably end up making more than one of these. It's hard to stop! If you're like me, it's just like eating candy.
When you choose to purchase a Sue kit, send me a message to
