Description
Painted and carved Korean Wedding Ducks, approx 11 inches long. Traditionally, a man would gift the family of his his bride to be a pair of live ducks or geese to indicate his desire to marry as ducks and geese are a symbol of monogamy. The couple then carefully selected a man to carve the ducks from wood. The ducks are wrapped in a beautiful cloth (not included in purchase) and the couple opens for the first time at the wedding. The ducks are placed in the home, usually beak to beak to indicate harmony. At times, placed with their backs to each other when the couple is having a tiff. The duck with the red string represents the bride and the blue string the groom. The strings are around the mouth to indicate patience, respect and that both should allow the other to speak.
