Description
Handsome fold-out 1954 Esso gas station road map of New York City and vicinity, including Long Island, printed more than 66 years ago.The map opens to 34" x 24" and has great detail on old street and highway alignments, with cartography by the General Drafting Company.
The coverage area extends from South Orange, New Jersey to the Bethpage State Parkway (under construction). What would later be called the Verazzano-Narrows Bridge is labeled as "proposed."
On the reverse side there is a road map of Long Island and a street plan of Lower Manhattan, from Central Park to the Battery.
The map was distributed by the Esso Standard Oil Company in 1954 and is dated in the legend. The code number in the lower margin is 354P.
Condition:
This map is in very good, lightly used condition, bright and clean, with
no
rips or tears. A previous owner has written his name on the cover and made a few small marks on the map. Please see the scans and feel free to ask any questions.
