Handsome fold-out 1948 Esso road map of the central and western United States, printed more than 72 years ago.
The map opens to 34" x 24½" and has great detail on old highway alignments, including U.S. Route 66, with cartography by the General Drafting Company.
The central states are on one side; the western ones on the other.
The coverage area includes Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Idaho, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Oregon, South Dakota, Texas, Utah, Washington, Wisconsin, and Wyoming.
The map was distributed by the Esso Standard Oil Company in 1948, and it is dated by the code number in the lower margin: 148. The front cover artwork depicts a rural highway scene.
Condition:
This map is in very good, lightly used condition, complete and intact, with route markings by the Esso Touring Service. A previous owner has written his name and address in pencil on the rear cover, and there are tiny breaks on a couple of the fold corners. Please see the scans and feel free to ask any questions.
